“Michelle was notably one of the best that I have worked with in my history with the VA. Michelle exhibits the passion, intelligence, drive, and intuition for cultural and diversity issues both in the fields of psychological service and research. Michelle’s background in Asian American studies, research interests focusing on ethnic minorities, and cross-cultural clinical work guided her therapeutic interventions and case formulations when working with a multicultural population. One of her individual patients was an Iraqi combat Marine Corps veteran of Mexican American background diagnosed with P TSD; he had been extremely difficult to engage in therapy and had displayed anger outbursts towards Michelle and the rest of the hospital staff. Using culturally sensitive and appropriate therapeutic interventions, Michelle was able to develop rapport with this patient, help redirect his emotions, provide anger management interventions, and identify the source of his anger over the months that she worked with him.”

“Michelle is an unusually gifted psychologist. Each of her areas of strength is grounded in her abiding respect for her patients, attunement to their goals and readiness for change, and understanding of the crucial role of basic physical and emotional safety for patients with histories of trauma.”

“As a person and as a psychologist, Michelle is full of heart, conscientiousness and wisdom. I consistently value her opinion and insight both personally and professionally. I continue to be inspired by her ingenuity, creativity and dedication to finding ways to innovate the field of psychology; to making it more accessible at all levels of need and interest.”

“Michelle is a thoughtful, compassionate and brave healer. I have known her for 6 years and have in that time become familiar with her excellent clinical work. Michelle utilizes an approach that combines grace, strength, kindness and science in the service of effectively helping people lessen their suffering.”

“I have come to work with Michelle in a seminar/training she conducted in the Philippines at the height of our recovery after typhoon Yolanda hit our country. I have seen her sincerity and compassion in the delivery of her services as a clinical psychologist. Michelle has the technical experience, of course, but for the Filipino people we value more than that. We place more value on how the services are rendered and I would say that Michelle has captivated our hearts because she gave her authentic self to the Filipino people.”
